The event took place in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosted by IECS-CLIAS CIIPS, IDRC, FCDO, in collaboration with HealthAI, The Global Health Network, and Roche. The Principal Investigators from the research teams gathered to discuss the urgent need for a strategic and intentional approach to the commercialization of different AI solutions in the Latin American and Caribbean region. 

Identification badges, notepads, agendas, and biographies of speakers, attendees, and organizers were shared to facilitate cross-cutting conversations and support points of contact. CLIAS coordinator Cintia Cejas warmly welcomed the principal investigators and outlined the agenda for the upcoming three days.

 

The 3-day workshop started with a warm greeting from Dr. Adolfo Rubeinstein and Cintia Cejas. HealthAI specialists John Magkilat and Amanda Leal facilitated an engaging session on AI ethics and how to incorporate ethical principles into AI development. Chaitali Sinha, the director of the AI4GH program, gave an inspiring and insightful speech on the current AI landscape and the future of AI4GH in the coming years.


A panel discussion titled: "From the laboratory to the real world: advances and counter-marches" featuring Mauricio Farez, CEO & Founder of ENTELAI; Alejandro Ledesma, CEO of EPILIQUID; Roberta Mele Mazza, Head of Quality and Regulation, South American Network, Roche; and guided by Santiago Esteban and Paulina K.

 

The Global Health Network's LAC coordinator, Dr. Bryain Maradiaga, delivered a thought-provoking session in which he described the best way to create and communicate the impact of their work to the broader community and stakeholders. Simultaneously, he captured the real person-centered stories of the projects and their impact, and will develop short stories that will be featured soon throughout the social media outlets.
