The Goal

To support the development and implementation of AI technologies and solutions that improve health and health care, reduce health disparities, and enhance health systems, especially in the themes of Sexual, Reproductive, and Maternal Health (SRMH) and Epidemic/Pandemic Prevention Preparedness and Response (E/PPPR).

By fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation, the AI for Global Health Research Knowledge Hub is helping to advance the field in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and contribute to creating a healthier, more equitable world.

AI4GH Project

A research and development initiative led by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), it aims to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to address global health challenges in developing countries.

Focus: developing and evaluating AI-powered solutions to improve healthcare delivery, increase access to medical information, and support health decision-making in low- and middle-income countries.

Through cutting-edge research, innovation, and knowledge sharing, and in collaboration with academic institutions, government agencies, and technology companies, we are advancing the development and deployment of AI in health and ensuring that the technology is ethical, equitable, and accessible to the people who need it most.

Notes

  • Connections: The direct lines in the diagram are indicative of flows of reporting; they do not illustrate knowledge exchange within and among the thematic and cross-cutting working groups. It is expected that these exchanges would be multidirectional. The dotted lines indicate that separate meetings are convened outside regional meetings.
  • Steering Committee: This group consists of representatives across AI4GH. Its purpose is to provide overall coherence for the initiative, and to provide guidance on decisions related to seeking additional funds, increasing visibility (including branding), and positioning research and process results to maximise change. The Committee meets quarterly and has rotating chairs
  • Thematic Working Groups: These groups discuss relevant literature, frameworks, results and new opportunities related to the specific theme. The composition of these groups relates to the focus on AI4GH grants.
  • Cross-cutting Working Groups: These groups were identified by the AI4GH collective at a workshop in Nairobi (Nov 2023) to address potential opportunities and challenges that transcend the thematic working groups.
  • Ad hoc Working Groups: Members are encouraged to take the initiative to constitute cross-cutting or thematic ad hoc groups to collaborate on new issues of mutual interest as they emerge
