IDRC-supported researchers within the AI4GH initiative will discuss opportunities and challenges related to developing responsible AI tools. Insights from teams in the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Africa, and Asia will shape the dialogue. Moderated by Mohammed Imran from PHC, the session will showcase real-world examples, including Jacaranda Health, which illustrates how a scaled AI-enabled system can enhance respectful and quality maternal and newborn health (presented by Anneka Wickramanayake). The Global South AI for Pandemic & Epidemic Preparedness and Response (AI4PEP) focuses on creating localized AI-enabled solutions to improve health system responses to climate change and other factors driving disease outbreaks (represented by Jude Kong). Four regional innovation hubs aim to utilize AI-enabled solutions to enhance sexual, reproductive, and maternal health outcomes across the Global South: in Africa, represented by Elizabeth Oseku; in LAC, represented by Cintia Cejas; in the Middle East, represented by Nour El Arnaout; and in Asia, represented by Mohammad Imran.
